Privacy Policy for Curio Tiles
Effective Date: July 30, 2026
At Curio Tiles, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application operates, how data is handled, and your privacy rights.
1. DATA COLLECTION & PERSONAL INFORMATION
Curio Tiles is designed as a privacy-first application. Curio Tiles does not collect, store, or share any personally identifiable information (PII) from users, through the application.
- No Account Required: You can use all features of the app without registering an account, providing an email address, or logging in.
- No Personal Tracking: We do not use third-party tracking software or analytics trackers to monitor your personal behavior across apps or websites.
- No Advertising: Curio Tiles does not display third-party advertisements and does not use advertising SDKs.
- Crash Reports: Curio Tiles does not collect diagnostic information or use third-party crash reporting services.
2. LOCAL DATA STORAGE ON YOUR DEVICE
All user preferences, interaction history, and saved data are stored strictly locally on your device using standard Android storage mechanisms:
- Bookmarks & Collections: Cards you save stay exclusively on your device.
- Topic Interest Preferences: The app adjusts card queue recommendations based on your swipe interactions (likes/skips). This recommendation algorithm operates entirely on your device and is never sent to a cloud server.
- Reading & Swiping History: Information about cards you have viewed or swiped is maintained locally to prevent duplicate cards and enable undo features.
3. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES & NETWORK REQUESTS
To provide you with fresh trivia and knowledge content, Curio Tiles connects to external APIs:
- Wikipedia / Wikimedia APIs: The app fetches publicly available Wikipedia article content and images directly from Wikimedia Foundation endpoints (REST API / Action API) under applicable Wikimedia licensing terms.
- Network Requests: When fetching content, standard technical metadata (such as your device's IP address and technical HTTP user-agent header required by web standards) may be processed standardly by Wikimedia servers in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy (https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy).
4. PERMISSIONS & CONTENT SAFETY
- Internet Access (
android.permission.INTERNET): Required solely to retrieve article summaries and image thumbnails from Wikipedia.
- On-Device Content Safety Filtering: Curio Tiles includes an on-device content filtering mechanism to reduce exposure to potentially inappropriate content. This filtering runs locally and does not send content to external moderation services.
5. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Curio Tiles is intended for a general audience and is not specifically designed for children under 13. The application does not knowingly collect personal information from any user.
6. USER DATA CONTROL & DELETION
You maintain complete control over all app data on your device:
- Clear Bookmarks/History: You can remove bookmarked cards directly within the app at any time.
- Reset App Data: You can clear all saved preferences and local database records at any time via your device's Android Settings > Apps > Curio Tiles > Storage > Clear Data.
- App Uninstallation: Uninstalling Curio Tiles completely and permanently removes all locally stored data from your device.
