Privacy Policy for Bibliomancy
Effective Date: August 18, 2026
At Bibliomancy, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application operates, how data is handled, and your privacy rights.
1. DATA COLLECTION & PERSONAL INFORMATION
Bibliomancy is designed as a privacy-first application. Bibliomancy does not collect, store, or share any personally identifiable information (PII) from users through the application.
- No Account Required: You can use all features of the app without registering an account, providing an email address, or logging in.
- No Personal Tracking: We do not use third-party tracking software or analytics trackers to monitor your personal behavior across apps or websites.
- No Advertising: Bibliomancy does not display third-party advertisements and does not use advertising SDKs.
- Crash Reports: Bibliomancy does not collect diagnostic information or use third-party crash reporting services.
2. LOCAL DATA STORAGE ON YOUR DEVICE
All user interaction history and temporary cache data are processed strictly locally on your device using standard Android storage mechanisms:
- In-Memory Quote Queue: Randomly fetched quotes and literary passages are temporarily held in an in-memory queue to ensure fast delivery and offline responsiveness.
- Interaction & Text Selection: All text interactions (such as native text selection for copying, sharing, or searching) are handled directly by your device's operating system context menu. No record of selected text is transmitted to external servers.
- Device Motion Processing: Shake gesture triggers rely on your device's physical accelerometer sensor to request new quotes. Motion data is processed locally in real time and is never recorded or stored.
3. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES & NETWORK REQUESTS
To retrieve literary quotes, author information, and metadata, Bibliomancy connects to external open APIs and system libraries:
- Wikiquote API: The app fetches publicly available quotes and metadata directly from the Wikimedia / Wikiquote MediaWiki API endpoints across various supported language editions under applicable open content licenses.
- Network Requests: When fetching content, standard technical metadata (such as your device's IP address and technical HTTP user-agent header required by web standards) may be processed by Wikimedia Foundation servers in accordance with the Wikimedia Privacy Policy (https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy).
4. PERMISSIONS & CONTENT SAFETY
- Internet Access (
android.permission.INTERNET): Required solely to retrieve random literary quotes and metadata from Wikiquote API endpoints.
- Hardware Sensors: Access to accelerometer sensors for shake gestures uses standard Android sensor APIs that do not require runtime permissions or access private user data.
- Zero Runtime Permissions: The application does not request or require runtime permissions (such as location, storage, clipboard, or contact access).
5. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Bibliomancy is intended for a general audience and is not specifically designed for children under 13. The application does not knowingly collect personal information from any user.
6. USER DATA CONTROL & DELETION
You maintain complete control over all app data on your device:
- Reset App Data: You can clear all temporary local caches and application data at any time via your device's Android Settings > Apps > Bibliomancy > Storage > Clear Data.
- App Uninstallation: Uninstalling Bibliomancy completely and permanently removes all locally cached data from your device.
7. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update our Privacy Policy. Any revisions will be reflected in future updates to the application.
